Our Future
VV encourages processes and programs that further our mission towards an equitable and sustainable food system and a workplace that reflects our values. Here’s what we’re working on now:
Dream Green Warehouse
At the intersection of farm and table sits the warehouse facility, and VV hopes to build one that lights, heats, and cools produce using renewable resources, maximizing recyclable outputs. Our green warehouse will be housed in a building that is itself built with reclaimed and recycled materials, leaving a minimal footprint on the earth.
Improved Farmer/Co-op Alliances
We have a vision of a select group of retail stores in a region committed to buying certain produce items from a consortium of growers, with our company providing logistical and administrative services. This program could insure that the retailer has a steady supply at a fixed cost, and participating growers would have predictable sales and prices. Consumers would also benefit from predictable pricing and reliable sources for their favorite fruit and vegetables.
Alternative Transportation
Healthy food from healthy farms shouldn’t be transported in vehicles that deplete natural resources, pollute the earth, and depend on awkward political alignments for fuel. In hopes of converting our fleet to ecological energy sources, we’re exploring non-petroleum based hydrogen fuel cells, compressed natural gas (CNG), liquid natural gas (LNG), and bio-diesel. We currently have one CNG vehicle, and we are in active support of lobbies and technologists seeking transportation alternatives.
Social Equity Programs
Access to organic food should be available to everyone. Community Food Security is an exciting global movement that relies on local and regional efforts to succeed. We are increasing our efforts with food and justice groups in the SF Bay Area to insure that everyone has local, nutritious, organic, and culturally-appropriate fruits and vegetables at all times.
