Staff activism
Our staff participates in activist and advocacy efforts both
locally and nationally. One of VV’s owners, Mary Jane Evans, is treasurer of
the well-respected Organic Farming and Research Foundation. Co-owner Bu Nygrens
is active in the Organic Trade Association (former Vice-President), and
currently sits on the Advisory Board of the San Francisco Food Systems Council.
As many as 5 of us participate in the annual Greenbelt Ride, a 600 mile bike
tour around San Francisco Bay that raises money to protect local commons.
Another co-owner, Karen Salinger, has been instrumental in organizing the
organic food and support transportation for this important local event.

We are active in the San Francisco Food Alliance, and are
members of the National Campaign for Sustainable Agriculture, California Food
and Justice, and other advocacy organizations on the local, state and national
level.
Awards
Veritable Vegetable has been awarded The Steward of
Sustainable Agriculture Award from the annual Eco-Farm Conference, The City of
San Francisco Environmental Achievement Award, the Spirit of Organics Award
from New Hope Publications, and the Cliff Adler Heart in Business Award.
“I’d use the following words to describe VV: integrity;
social consciousness; a deep commitment to quality, people and the earth;
trust; a leader in the organic industry. The folks at VV are great to work
with: VV walks its talk, and the owners are activists, accessible, and
inspiring.”
