Relationships
A values-based approach
Veritable Vegetable is founded on the principles of collaboration, cooperation and the interconnectedness of all life on Earth. We believe in cultivating and nourishing long- term, mutually beneficial relationships both externally (with vendors, customers, and community) and internally (between staff).
We place high value on understanding the needs of others, as well as our own. As in all relationships, clear communication is key to this understanding. The most successful decisions take into consideration what is best for all components of a system over the long term.
The good farmers we know work in relationship with the plants, insects and wildlife on their farms, and they know that relations with their employees and farm workers are most successful when long-term and mutually beneficial. We use this values-based partnership approach as a model for all business decisions at VV.
Solid relationships are good for business
Food distribution is dependent on repeat business. Our farmers rely on regular, predictable support for the crops they grow. Our customers depend on reliable services and dependable quality. And our great service is dependent on the continued efforts of all people that work at VV.
After thirty years of business experience we know valuing the true costs associated with producing quality products and services results in better decisions for us as a business. While not every business relationship lasts forever, taking the time and energy to build an open and strong relationship is worth everything to us, in the long run. We just couldn’t do business any other way.
“We are supported by VV to not only provide our customers with the best organic produce available but also to educate our customers through demos, cooking classes and information. VV values relationships and I value ours with VV.” - Janet Zeller, Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op | ![]() |
