A key component of buying or selling organic products is
organic certification. Current regulations require certification for most
producers and handlers in the market today. We are certified by California
Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF) as an organic handler.
The national Organic Foods Production Act of 1990 governs
the production and sale of organic produce in the entire US. It is administered
by the Agriculture Marketing Service’s National
Organic Program, which is part of the United States Department of Agriculture. The NOP accredits all
certification agents in the US. All organic producers or manufacturers must be
certified by an USDA-accredited certifier in order to market their products as
organic (unless they are exempt due to their small size).
While most of the produce we sell is certified organic, we
do offer a small amount of uncertified organic from growers who sell less than
$5,000 of organic product each year.Product from these growers is identified as “OG” on our invoices, bills
of lading, and quote sheets.
