Public agencies, governmental policies, educators, trade organizations and community organizations also contribute to making the food system more sustainable.
In every part of the food system critical decisions get made based on values. Values underlie the types of farming practices employed on a farm, the business practices utilized by processors and distributors, and purchasing decisions made by stores, institutions, and restaurants.
As eaters and community members, it is our duty to consider the health of the farms, farmers, and farm workers that feed us, the people that move our food from farm to retailer, as well as the people within our communities. Our everday personal choices affect the entire food system.
